Safari's 2001 Season

Southwest Secionals were held in Santa Barbara. Safari placed second to the Santa Barbara Condors. Regionals were held in Indio, CA at their beautiful polo fields, where the weather was typical SoCal - hot and sunny. The format was a little different this year, because there were seven women's teams, the UPA decided we would play a straight round robin - the 1st and 2nd place teams would be awarded Nationals bids. Saturday, we finished 4-0 beating Rare Air, on Sunday, we watched the Condors secure our place at the 2001 National Championships when they also defeated Rare Air. We ended up second in the Region, with our only loss to the Santa Barbara Condors. Nationals were held in Sarasota, FL, where the weather was extremely windy with scattered showers the entire week. We were defeated by Godiva in the quarter finals, sending us on to play off for 5th place. We defeated Schwa to secure our 5th or 6th ranking, then went on to defeat Backhoe in our final game, ranking Safari 5th in the Nation for the 2001 season.

Safari's 1997 Season

Southwest Sectionals were held in San Diego. The following teams played: Condors, Phyllis, Discosoarus, and Safari. Safari came in second to the Condors.

On to regionals, in Colorado Springs, CO. The first day was warm, and extremely windy. We finished Saturday with a 4-0 record. Sunday brought 4 inches of snow, and frigid playing conditions for us Southern California gals! We played strong, however, beating Rare Air in the finals, and claiming the #1 qualfying spot for Nationals!

Nationals, in Sarasota, FL challenged the entire team, since we weren't able to bring along our fearless leader, Pav. We finished our 1997 season as ranked 10th in the Nation.

Safari at Worlds '97
Vancouver, BC

How I spent my summer vacation. . . playing the most intense Ultimate for 6 days in a row, 4 hours a day, against teams from all over the world! We came away from this tournament ranked 10th in the World!

Safari's 1996 Season

Safari had a strong '96 season, qualifying for the National Tournament at Plano, TX. Not rain, nor sleet, nor crashing planes could keep us away from Nationals.

Once we finally reached Texas, we stayed competitive until the last round of pool play, which was equivalent to quarter finals. We finished a respectable 7th in the nation. This ranking qualified us for the UPA World Championship, in Vancouver, BC, July 27-Aug 2, 1997.

Our Nationals stats:
Day 1:
De'Fence [San Francisco] 12-13 loss
Category 5 [Wilmington] 15-6 win

Day 2:

Lady Godiva [Boston] 7-15 loss
Twister [Boston #2] 13-5 win
